The company Layer is one of the most important scaffold construction companies in Germany. Their area of application covers both the production of the scaffold and the support of planners for special problems at building sites. A part of the field trip was an extensive inspection of the plant. The work procedures and individual production machines were presented and described in detail. In addition the company presented some selected projects The presentation focussed on the individual planning steps and technical solutions with the different products as well as their static calculation. The topic scaffold construction is often not part of the curriculum at german universities. For this reason it was an interesting and instructive presentation.

The next day the construction site of Stuttgart 21 was visited. An engineer offered very interesting views into traffic routing and technical solutions. It was impressive to see how such a big construction site in the tight and crowded urban environment was planned and organized.
